The Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department offers residents from across the county the opportunity to participate in a recreational 5K racing series beginning June 12
Aiken SC, May 26, 2010: In a format that is a precursor of things to come, residents of Aiken County and our visitors will have to opportunity to participate in a true 5K racing series starting Saturday, June 12. The Run Till Fall series consists of 5 events, one per month, in different locations throughout Aiken County. PRT staff is heralding this series as the first of its kind in the county. “We want to create a sense of ‘community’ within the entire county. We are trying to foster a relationship and a sense of belonging with all the small communities in the county; especially those communities and folks outside the US 1 corridor,” says Brad Barnes, the new Director of the Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism department.
This is also the first time registration for an Aiken County PRT event has been available online. “This is the direction in which we want to move the department,” stated Barnes. “Our customers have the expectation that our services and programs are available online. We need to be able to register everyone for everything, event rent facilities, from our website.”
Participants will have their results from four of the five events, their top four results, tabulated and overall series awards will be presented to each age group at the final race. The races will take place at Aiken State Natural on June 12, Monetta on July 17, Boyd Park on August 21, Wagener on September 18 and Jackson on October 16. More information is available on the Aiken County website at http://www.aikencountysc.gov/tourism/recreation.htm. Registration is available online at http://www.active.com/5k-race/aiken-sc/run-till-fall-5k-series-2010.
