Sade Set To Return With New Album
2009 looks to be the year for soulful singers to make their return.
Sade is set to make a comeback.
On the heels of an announcement that Maxwell will release a new album this year comes news that Sade will end a nine-year hiatus and release new material late this year, according to Billboard.
Though no release date for the album is set, Sade and a new band bearing her name, will return to the studio this month.
A Web site, Sade2009, launched last week, but Sony Records—the label the singer records under—denied that the November 2009 date listed for the project was accurate.
"We do not know where that fan site could have got that release date from, but it is 100 percent not true,” Sony told Billboard in a statement.
The Sade2009 site has since updated its information.
The near-decade layoff for Sade is a sign that the singer is the epitome of a true artist, according to the Sade2009 page. “If you know Sade, you know she does not make albums for the money, Sade is an artist who creates music purely on inspiration,” the home page reads. “Hence why we've waited nearly a decade for another release, like a poet with a 9 year dry spell until she fell in love again, Sade will bless us with another classic.”
According to Sony, there’s no pressure for Sade to finish the album. "She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready," an anonymous Sony employee explained to Billboard. "You don't wait for years for one and then rush it."
