Spencer Day Posts Anti Valentine's Day Video IN Spirit Of The Day
In what he calls the “spirit” of Valentine’s Day on Sunday (Feb. 14), vocalist and pianist Spencer Day has written a song called “Taken” that he’s posted to YouTube. He says the premise is when you’re in a relationship, it always seems like there are a ton of options, and people are interested in you, but when you are single all those options seem to dry up.
From Day’s channel on YouTube: “Anyone else tired of that sickeningly sweet and impossibly optimistic holiday, Valentine’s Day, and all its unending expectations, marketing nonsense and inevitable heart-lurching disappointments? Yeah, us too. But maybe there’s hope for incurable non-romantics. That’s probably why we really enjoyed the music video for Spencer Day’s ‘anti-Valentine’s Day’ song titled ‘Taken.’ The track is cute, sweet and wholesome, but with a refreshing and distinctively cynical edge.”
“The video is basically someone in a relationship, gets dumped, and is alone on Valentine’s Day,” adds David Britz of Stiletto Entertainment, Day’s management company. “And they’re not happy about it.”
The video was filmed at the beach in Southern California. The male lead in the video, a young boy named Christian Bryant, is a nod to the E-Trade commercials featuring infants and kids. The female lead is Allegra Edwards.
Day’s major-label debut, Vagabond, features the Smooth Jazz Top 20 hit “Till You Come to Me.” He’s just announced four shows at Upright Cabaret at Vermont in Los Angeles. They are March 11, March 18, March 25 and April 1.
